This Kensington Health Sciences team supported 11th grade English, 12th-grade Poetry, and 11th grade Global Leadership classes at Kensington Health Sciences Academy. Students used material from The 1619 Project to explore the connections between history, journalism, argumentative writing, and poetry.

How Language Becomes Law
Students use rhetorical analysis skills to reflect on the media backlash to The 1619 Project and connect political media rhetoric to current anti-critical race theory (CRT) legislation.

Students read historical and contemporary texts. They analyze how the authors reconcile the ideals in the founding documents with slavery, and how they use rhetorical devices to strengthen arguments.
