LBUSD/UCI Teacher Academy
CALIFORNIA
Our plan includes partnering with local historians and educators to create a unit around Black agency and resilience throughout American history with a focus on education. We intend to center the stories of early Black Americans seeking education justice with more recent local exemplars by connecting with our local Historical Society of Long Beach as an archival well of community- based activism. This unit we plan to create can be well positioned for 11th grade Modern United States History classes, 12th grade United States Government classes, as well as our Ethnic Studies classes. The completed unit can be connected to our current unit guidance for all teachers as well as training opportunities to support teacher development and implementation.
