Democracy How?

NEW JERSEY

The La Unique Bookstore and Cultural Arts Center will utilize our community space to cultivate a resource center for intellectual discourse about the ongoing challenges to democracy faced by American citizens. Project events and activities include: providing 1619 books to local classrooms, exploration of artifacts related to Project materials from local historical societies, a community book study of The 1619 Project, and public forums addressing American democracy in our current moment. We see this project as a catalyst for ongoing programing in the form of the Radical Readers book club, continued intergenerational conversations and actions around issues of social justice, and the installation of a mural that represents the literary focus of The 1619 Project.
