REPORTING FELLOW
Lucia Geng is a rising senior at the University of Chicago majoring in political science and minoring in human rights and Arabic. She is particularly interested in elevating the voices and narratives of marginalized communities and covering non-reformist efforts to dismantle the carceral state.
Geng is currently a contributing editor for the South Side Weekly, where she writes about Illinois’s criminal legal system. She was previously an editorial intern with Resolve Philadelphia, an organization that challenges the journalism industry to be more equitable, collaborative, and rooted in community voices and solutions. Geng has worked to improve prison conditions as an intern with the ACLU’s National Prison Project, and was a reporting intern with the Center for Responsive Politics, The Philadelphia Inquirer, and PolitiFact. In her free time, Geng can be found listening to Phoebe Bridgers’ entire discography on repeat, or getting way too emotionally invested in participating in various trivia competitions.
