Ashonti Ford

Ashonti Ford is the main evening anchor in the South, where she anchors the 4, 5, 6, and 10pm newscasts and produces in-depth investigative and documentary-style reporting.

A nationally recognized journalist, Ford has worked in newsrooms across the country, including Washington, D.C., Tampa, Kansas City, Decatur, Wichita, and Salisbury. Throughout her career, she has covered presidential elections, government accountability, and stories that have led to meaningful public policy discussions and change.

As a Pulitzer Center grantee, Ford has reported on complex domestic and international issues affecting migrant workers, women, children, and underrepresented communities, while also highlighting overlooked chapters of Black history. Her work increasingly focuses on the American criminal legal system, including wrongful convictions, capital punishment, and the human impact of justice policy.

Her latest Pulitzer Center-supported reporting examines Alabama’s use of the death penalty through the perspectives of prosecutors, defense attorneys, lawmakers, faith leaders, exonerees, and families impacted by violent crime. The project explores the intersection of wrongful convictions, criminal justice reform, and one of the nation’s most debated public policy issues.
