Impact Initiative Kicks Off With Over 30 Journalists From Around the World
Two years ago, we reimagined our strategic framework to place impact and audiences at the heart of everything we do. Since then, we have rebuilt programs, refined our theory of change, and listened carefully to what communities and journalists need.
Today, we are proud to present the very first cohort of our Impact Initiative, a program designed to respond to some of those challenges and based on a simple, but powerful idea: journalism that extends beyond publication and inspires meaningful change.
Over 30 journalists from 22 countries will work over the next few months to reach impact by design. We call it Breakthrough Journalism, an approach that helps people make sense of a complex, noisy world and their role within it. Breakthrough Journalism combines quality reporting with compelling stories that not only reach communities but also facilitate the conditions for civic dialogue and solution-building.
How We Design for Impact
From photo books to storytelling trainings and walking tours, this cohort will build on their Pulitzer Center-supported reporting to reimagine formats, develop closer relationships with their audiences and strive to place journalism at the center of community dialogue. With the guidance and support of our Engagement team, as well as our partner Jazmín Acuña, each of these projects will strategize and design an impact journey to identify who their audiences are, how they interact with the information around them, and how these stories can best reach and engage them.
Meet Our Cohort
This inaugural edition of the Impact Initiative brings together 24 reporting projects from all around the world and a wide range of formats, from TV and FM radio to documentaries, podcasts, social video and print publications. Additionally, we will also support six journalists from our AI Reporting Fellowship program. Please join us in celebrating this outstanding cohort:

This program and the framework that supports it are the culmination of months of planning, multidisciplinary dialogue, and active listening to what our communities had to share, but above all, it is the result of a living organization that seeks to evolve constantly to meet the needs and demands of this ever-changing industry. This moment is thus deeply meaningful to us, and we are looking forward to sharing the results with you in the coming months.
Stay tuned for more updates about the Impact Initiative.
Thank you!
