Pulitzer Center Update December 22, 2025
Become Part of Our Story
As we approach our 20-year anniversary, I’ve been talking with many of you about the future of journalism—and our society—as social media and AI continue to transform how people get and share their news.
You’ve told me that you’re worried. Frustrated. Discouraged. I get it.
And yet, I can’t help but be excited.
That’s because I believe that the Pulitzer Center approach is a way forward to a brighter future—not just for journalism but for communities.
Our model is not simple, but it’s immensely powerful.
It starts, of course, with courageous journalism. When I look back on the hundreds of incredible reporting projects the Pulitzer Center made possible this year, I see investigations that changed laws, exposed corruption, and held businesses accountable for harmful practices. I see beautiful storytelling that brought to life the world’s richness and complexity, both far away and here at home.
It continues with creative civic engagement. Because journalism doesn’t just inform—it inspires curiosity, conversation, and purpose. I hear it in the voices of young people who write poems inspired by the journalism we fund. I hear it in the earnest discussions between community leaders, researchers, and journalists as they tackle our world’s challenges.
It’s powered by training, tools, and networks for journalists and educators—vital infrastructure that builds skills and relationships for lasting impact. Success here requires constant innovation. We stay on top of the trends, survey the needs, and share what we learn.
That’s how we achieve what we call breakthrough journalism—journalism that breaks through our noisy, disconnected world, triumphs over the algorithm, and builds stronger communities.
Yes, these are tumultuous times. That’s why our mission matters more than ever. So let’s get to work. Join us in investing in the next 20 years of breakthrough journalism.
