Kingmakers of Oakland

Our project, The King's Legacy, integrated The 1619 Project as the foundational texts in our lessons for students in our afterschool enrichment program in both Oakland, CA and Seattle, WA. Students created artwork and written work that reimagines significant events in US history from undertold Black perspectives as a demonstration of what they learned. Student work was compiled into an anthology to bring together students’ projects across classrooms, grade levels, districts and state lines.
