Bruce-Monroe at Parkview Middle School
DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
A team of educators from Bruce-Monroe at Park View School engaged students, teachers, families, and community members in thinking routines, text talks, and integrated art projects related to The 1619 Project resources. Together, the educators, students, teachers, families, and community members built solidarity by studying the impact and shared legacy of institutional slavery among Black, Latine, and Indigenous Peoples' communities in the Americas and the Caribbean. The project concluded with a community teach-in, sharing learning and accessible 1619 Project resources to foster deeper understanding, cultural appreciation, and a stronger sense of community connectedness.
