Basotho miners who once legally worked in South Africa’s gold mines earned wealth for the mining companies but returned home to Lesotho with lungs full of silica dust, burdened by silicosis and tuberculosis. Despite documented medical evidence, many now live in poverty while their claims for compensation through the Tshiamiso Trust stall, leaving a generation trapped between betrayal and broken promises.
