Forced Sterilizations Impact Uyghurs’ Mental Health
Country:

The Uyghurs are a predominately Muslim ethnic minority in China who have been victims of persecution for decades. They have been subjected to the most extreme psychological, physical, and sexual abuse. One of the hallmarks of the genocide has been the forced sterilization of Uyghur women, in an attempt by the Chinese Communist Party to erase the Uyghur bloodline.
The Uyghur refugee community in the United States fled the genocide and survived modern-day concentration camps.
This reporting project investigates the mental health challenges faced by Uyghur women who have been forcefully sterilized, and the mental health resources available to them. The reporting also examines the mental health crisis facing Uyghurs in the U.S.
