Steven Grattan

GRANTEE

A Northern Irish native, Steven Grattan has been based in Colombia since 2013. He founded the English-language newspaper The Bogota Post that same year and taught journalism at Bogota's Universidad del Rosario.

He began full-time freelancing for international media in 2018 and has reported from some of Colombia’s most forgotten and violent regions for Reuters, The Washington Post, Al Jazeera, BBC, The Guardian, and The Economist, among many other outlets.

His reporting has focused mostly on migration, human rights abuses, LGBT+ stories, and the complicated ongoing peace process. In March 2022, Grattan was set to move to São Paulo, Brazil, to begin his first staff position in journalism as the Latin America breaking news reporter for Reuters.

He holds a bachelor's from the University of Chester and a master's from the University of Leicester.
