Meral Jamal

Meral Jamal is an independent journalist focused on culture, community, and climate change reporting.
Originally from the United Arab Emirates, she is based in Iqaluit, Canada, and writes stories from across Canada's North.
In 2023, the Pulitzer Center awarded Jamal the 2023 Persephone Miel Fellowship. During her Fellowship, Jamal examined the impact of changing snow conditions in the High Arctic on the lives of local inhabitants, and how Indigenous Inuit knowledge can bolster scientific research.
