Mayra Báez
SOCIAL MEDIA COORDINATOR
Mayra Báez is the Social Media Coordinator at the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, where she connects the Center's journalism and education programs with global audiences through digital platforms.
Báez has spent more than a decade building audiences for journalism that matters. She co-founded AJ+ Español, Al Jazeera's first Spanish-language outlet, growing it from zero to one million users in under a year. At the Latin American Center for Investigative Journalism (CLIP), she managed social media across seven platforms for a network of more than 100 partner outlets spanning Latin America, Europe, and the United States, and designed a three-year community strategy to transform readers into active participants in investigative journalism. Her work has been recognized with the Global Shining Light Award, the Online Journalism Award for Excellence in Collaboration, and an Ortega y Gasset Special Mention for Multimedia Coverage.
A 2025 CUNY AI Journalism Lab Fellow, Báez has trained journalists and editors across Latin America on generative AI tools and their responsible use in newsrooms. She has been quoted in Teen Vogue and featured by the Lenfest Institute for her thinking on audience engagement and the future of journalism.
