Maria Avlonitis

Maria Avlonitis is a 2026 graduate of the University of Florida's College of Journalism and Communications, where she won the Kenneth Christiansen award her senior year for outstanding achievement at WUFT-FM and WUFT-TV.
She was part of a WUFT investigation into the limits of ecotourism in Costa Rica that placed in the top 10 in the Hearst multimedia team contest.
She’s worked as a reporter and editor for the Independent Florida Alligator University desk, and as a deputy editor for WUFT-FM. She was one of 10 University of Florida students selected for the 2025 CNN Academy in Atlanta.
