Pulitzer Center grantee Halle Parker will visit Syracuse University on Thursday, April 3, 2025. During her day-long visit, she will engage with students in classes in news literacy, reporting, digital news and innovation, and radio reporting and producing classes. Parker will also host office hours, offering students the opportunity to meet with her in a more intimate setting to discuss her work and career, and ask questions.
At 5:00pm, Halle will deliver a public talk titled “All Gassed Up: Untangling Complex Stories Through Audio.” In this presentation, she will share strategies for bringing big energy and climate reporting to life, creating access points that hold the audience’s attention, and avoiding oversimplification.
Halle Parker has covered Louisiana's environment for New Orleans Public Radio, NPR, the Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate, and the Houma Courier, among other publications. She co-created the long-form environmental podcast Sea Change, which tells stories from the Gulf Coast. Her work has been recognized locally, regionally, and nationally, with awards from Covering Climate Now and the Society of Environmental Journalists (SEJ), where she currently serves as board president.
Halle has completed two Pulitzer Center-supported projects, Grand Isle: Louisiana's Last Barrier Island, and, most recently, 'All Gassed Up'.
