Pulitzer Center Update April 21, 2021

Rooted in Race and Class: Intersections in Climate Stories

Authors:

Climate change has increasingly disrupted life across the globe with hurricanes, floods, and, as Pulitzer Center grantees have recently reported, disease. As we learn more about the science behind these extreme weather events and the destruction of land, it becomes clear that Black, brown, and Indigenous communities are hugely affected by environmental issues. In this panel, Pulitzer Center grantees explore how stories deeply rooted in race and class issues are also environment stories.

Panelists:
- Rickey Ciapha Dennis Jr., reporter, The Post and Courier
- Aaron Sánchez-Guerra, reporter, The News & Observer and the Herald Sun
- Carly Berlin, Gulf Coast correspondent, Southerly
- Fábio Zuker, Amazon Rainforest Journalism Fund grantee
- Kayla Edwards (moderator), Pulitzer Center outreach assistant

This session was recorded on April 20, 2021, as part of the Pulitzer Center’s annual conference, Environment (Re)Defined. All conference session recordings will be available on our Webinars On-Demand page.
